LAREDO, Tx.- The tennis player from Laredo Community College, Cledson Carvalho couldn’t repeat what he did last year in the "Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Bowl Championship”.

In the 2008 edition, Carvalho won the championship in singles and doubles with his former teammate, Moacir Santos. This year he reached the singles final, losing in straight sets 7-5 6-3 against Damian Hume from Collin County Community College.

In doubles, Carvalho and Felipe Baptista got the third. In the semifinal they lost again Fresno City College in two sets. "Everything points to the fact that the team has to work harder to win a sixth consecutive title in the nation in Junior Colleges to be held in April," said Don Juan.

"Part of my recruiting job is to make sure I'm bringing the best players in the tennis team, is that our student athletes need to work harder to earn his scholarship," he said.

The philosophy of this coach is that student athletes must prove they want an education, being a model student in the community and most importantly show who want to be the best tennis players with a work ethic.
