Costa Rica wants to negotiate with Laredo

LAREDO, Tx,- The Port of Laredo-Nuevo Laredo has the advantage of time savings in order to compete as a goods distribution centers in the U.S. This will be the main factor in establishing a trade corridor with Costa Rica.

Vice minister of foreign trade in Costa Rica, Fernando Ocampo, confirmed that the time savings advantage is of 3-5 days to ship merchandise from Laredo, compared with the port of Miami, Florida and this helps to reduce costs by up to 15 percent.

Costa Rican exporters are interested in the market in central and eastern United States where they send finished products from companies like Intel, Hewlett Packard and St.

Jude Medical, as well as banana, pineapple and coffee among others.

After the meeting yesterday, Wednesday, with officials from Laredo, meetings were held with members of the private sector to achieve logistics services, reception and distribution of its products, and even business partners.

There are also intentions of using the facilities of the Laredo International Airport, where they have invested $174 million in 15 years to get planes loaded with goods from Costa Rica.
